Position Summary:

The Crowd Flow Manager is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and positive movement of attendees throughout a large-scale pop culture convention. This position leads a team of crowd management staff and serves as a key point of contact for identifying and resolving crowd-flow issues before they become significant problems.

The Crowd Flow Manager will monitor entrances, security lines, registration areas, and high-traffic corridors. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, highly observant, comfortable making quick decisions, and able to direct a team in a fast-paced event environment.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


Crowd Flow & Attendee Experience

  • Monitor attendee movement throughout the venue and identify potential congestion, bottlenecks, unsafe conditions, and operational pain points.

  • Develop and implement strategies to keep lines and crowds moving efficiently.

  • Monitor queues for security and registration.

  • Identify developing crowd issues and proactively address them before they escalate.

  • Coordinate the opening, closing, merging, splitting, and rerouting of lines as needed.

  • Work with venue, service partners, and event teams to establish appropriate queue locations and overflow areas.

  • Ensure emergency exits, fire lanes, ADA access routes, and other critical pathways remain clear.

  • Monitor crowd density and communicate when additional staff, barricades, signage, or other resources are needed.

  • Help create a welcoming and organized experience for attendees, even during periods of extremely high attendance.


Team Management

  • Lead and supervise Crowd Flow Staff.

  • Conduct pre-shift briefings and ensure staff understands assignments, procedures, and escalation protocols.

  • Monitor staff performance throughout the event and redirect resources as conditions change.

  • Provide real-time coaching and support to team members.

  • Escalate staffing, safety, security, or operational concerns to the appropriate event leadership.


Security & Operations Coordination

  • Work closely with the security company, Attendee Relations, Registration, Operations, and venue teams.

  • Coordinate with Security when lines or crowds create safety concerns.

  • Assist with the management of unexpected crowd surges, blocked pathways, transportation issues, or other operational disruptions.

  • Support emergency response procedures as directed by event leadership and venue/security personnel.

  • Communicate changes in crowd conditions to the Operations team in real time.

  • Assist with developing contingency plans for high-volume areas and anticipated crowd surges.


Event Planning & Preparation

  • Participate in pre-event site walks and identify potential crowd-flow challenges.

  • Assist with developing crowd-flow plans, queue layouts, staffing plans, and operational procedures.

  • Review event schedules and identify activities likely to create significant crowd demand.

  • Participate in virtual operational meetings and pre-event planning sessions.

  • Assist with creating post-event reports documenting crowd-flow challenges and recommended improvements.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in event operations, crowd management, guest services, security, venue operations, or a related field.

  • Previous experience supervising or leading teams in a high-volume environment.

  • Experience working at conventions, festivals, sporting events, concerts, theme parks, or other large-scale public events is strongly preferred.

  • Strong situational awareness and ability to recognize developing problems quickly.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful or rapidly changing situations.

  • Comfortable making decisions and giving clear direction in real time.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work long hours while remaining attentive and engaged.

  • Requires a Windows or Mac device that can access Google Workspace and a reliable internet connection for virtual meetings.

  • Comfortable working remotely before the event.

  • Ability to work in Phoenix, AZ from June 2-6, 2027.

Working Conditions

This is a highly active event position. The Crowd Flow Manager should expect to spend the majority of the workday on their feet and moving throughout the outdoor event areas and venue. The position may require working in loud, crowded, hot, cold, or otherwise challenging conditions. The schedule may include extended shifts during the convention.


The hourly rate starts at $16.15, along with a complimentary hotel room and hotel parking or economy airfare.
